We see ourselves as a dynamic platform where engaged Buddhists can share resources and work together for the betterment of the Buddhist community and, ultimately, the society.
Dharma In Action Limited (DIA) started as a gathering of enthusiastic Buddhists promoting Buddhist lifestyle in February 2008. By February 2009, DIA was officially incorporated in Singapore as a company limited by guarantee to further our mission of innovating cultural and educational programmes that are related to Buddhism.
What are Dharma In Action’s Programs?
DIA’s two main programs are its Annual Signature Event and collaborative initiatives supporting Buddhist youths. The 2008 Annual Signature Event was a Buddhist Youth Conference attracting 150 participants and 19 speakers. T.H.I.S. Buddhist Film Festival 2009 brought Buddhist teachings, histories and cultures to more than 5,000 audiences in September. Buddhist Conference 2554 – Creating Happiness in the Here and Now was held on 23 October 2010 for 600 participants. In conjunction with the Conference, a Fringe Programme comprising 10 Dharma talks and workshops from May to October 2010 attracted more than 500 participants thus far.
With a firm belief in collaboration, DIA supported the OM music Workshop which was born from the 2008 Buddhist Youth Conference by youths keen to promote positive values through music and performances. Their first concert in February 2009 featured 20 young musicians and attracted 80 audiences. A second concert was held in April 2009. Also born from the 2008 Buddhist Youth Conference was the Buddhist Youth Leadership camp, Camp L.I.O.N.S. Initiated by youth leaders in June 2009, it was attended by 75 youth leaders from 9 Buddhist youth groups. Camp L.I.O.N.S. II, held in June 2010, was attended by 100 youth leaders from 10 Buddhist youth groups. Camp L.I.O.N.S. III was also held in June 2011.
In addition to supporting Camp L.I.O.N.S., DIA also provided a platform to a group of young Buddhists who developed a public education project, “Agree to Disagree – Conversations on Conversion“.
